The Plan, So Far

On a sailboat, deciding where to go and when to go is an on-going discussion. We know our basic direction (i.e. north and then west), and have a loose timeline (Guadaloupe February, St. Maarten March, Bahamas May). But precisely which islands or which anchorages to stop in, what day do we leave, day or night sail, is the weather cooperating, and is the boat ready are all questions that float quietly, ever-present in the air as we go about the daily routines of meals, clean up, school, laundry, internet, swimming.

We have finally mapped out a plan that should bring us to Guadeloupe in time to meet Kamini in early February. I am already looking forward to being there and having her and Rowan aboard again.

Guadeloupe will be a milestone. We’ll be well into the Leewards again, and away from the Windward poverty. But I know that once we are there, we’ll remember this initial part of the voyage as the real-deal Caribbean experience.
